Upcoming Releases:

August 24

CD:
The Dandy Warhols, The Best Of The Capitol Years (1995 - 2007): 15-track CD album. This is band's first ever best of collection, and brings together all of their hits from their breakthrough Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth to the UK No 5 smash Bohemian Like You; plus a few album tracks hand-picked by the band themselves and This Is The Tide, a new track, recorded specifically for this release. $14.00

Katy Perry, Teenage Dream: The Grammy Award-nominated singer's follow-up to her multi-platinum debut, One of the Boys, comes on the heels of her No. 1 singles I Kissed A Girl, Hot N Cold, and Waking Up In Vegas. It's preceded by a single, California Gurls, which is purportedly Perry's West Coast response to Jay-Z's salute to New York, Empire State of Mind. Snoop Dogg is featured on that track, while the upcoming release is said to include contributions from Dr. Luke, Greg Wells, Ryan Tedder, Rivers Cuomo, Christopher Tricky Stewart and Cathy Dennis. Perry told Rolling Stone she'll definitely keep it pop and said the album's sound would be like Love Fool by the Cardigans meets Into the Groove by Madonna but (with) a little more meat on the bones lyrically. $17.00

September 7

CD:
Various Artists, We Were So Turned On (Tribute To David Bowie): Charity compilation and tribute to the man who invented reinvention. The charity, War Child, helps children affected by war across the globe, despite what border they inhabit, a charity Bowie himself makes no secret about supporting. By the Summer of 2009, this collection began to take shape with UK legends Duran Duran (covering Boys Keep Swinging), and former Slits member Viv Albertine coming aboard, as well as contributions from Warpaint, A Place To Bury Strangers, Rainbow Arabia, Chairlift, Vivian Girls, Papercranes, Carla Bruni and Megapuss. $15.00

September 14

CD:
The Charlatans UK, Who We Touch (Deluxe Edition): With a career that has already spanned two decades, The Charlatans release their new album 'Who We Touch', on September 6th 2010. Their eleventh studio album, 'Who We Touch' was produced by Youth (Paul McCartney, Primal Scream and The Verve) and was recorded at Britannia Row in London, on the desk that New Order's 'Blue Monday' was recorded on. Featuring eleven tracks, the album must surely rank as their boldest to date radically broadening, in places, their aesthetic remit. Opener, Love Is Ending, is the first single to be taken from the album, released on August 2nd. Oh! is a beautiful song of reconciliation, as complex as its shifting time signatures (one section is in 3/4 waltz time), and then You Can Swim, an exquisite ooze of ambience, reminiscent of Another Green World-era Eno, with whose creative ideas the album began. Lurking at the end of the album is hidden track I Sing The Body Eclectic featuring Crass's Penny Rimbauld on vocals. Gee Vaucher who did the iconic artwork for all of Crass's releases, also provides Who We Touch with it's eerie collaged cover image. This Deluxe version includes a Bonus Disc of demos, out-takes, and alternate versions from the album sessions. $16.00

Brandon Flowers, Flamingo (Deluxe Edition): The Killers' Brandon Flowers debut solo album on Vertigo Records. Produced by Stuart Price, Daniel Lanois, and Brendan O'Brien, 'Flamingo' is a brilliant 10-song collection from an artist whose voice and songwriting prowess have left an indelible mark on the music world. The album's infectious first single, 'Crossfire', is a rousing, epic rocker. $18.00

Grinderman, Grinderman 2: When Nick Cave put the Bad Seeds on temporary hiatus, he formed Grinderman with Warren Ellis, Jim Sclavunos, and Martyn Casey, all members of his primary outfit. They were the mirror image of the Bad Seeds: irreverent, hard rocking, and just plain fun. They issued their self-titled debut album, a crunchy, howling slab of grit, grime, sleazy humor, swampy shambolic blues, and high-octane garage band energy. Grinderman 2 is another step in that direction, albeit a bit further afield. Cave's songwriting goes further into the blackly humorous and the band's sound evolves. All the original trademarks are there: the cacophonous piano, howling guitars and electric mandolins, sawing violins, low-end basslines, and cracking, clamorous beats, rooted in basic roar and roll. That said, these songs travel to the fringes as well; there is more improvisation, more willingness to let a tune come close to falling apart before pasting it back together. This is what some would call a more experimental record, though it is no less enjoyable, and far more fierce in the death-rattling whomp that Grinderman's debut merely hinted at. $16.00

CD:
OMD, History Of Modern (Limited CD/DVD): Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, one of the UK's most iconic bands, are back with their first new album in 14 years, the appropriately entitled 'History Of Modern'. And what a return. Andy McCluskey has called it 'our best album since Architecture and Morality' and few would disagree. The album was produced by OMD and mixed by one of the UK's most in demand producers Mike Crossey (Artic Monkeys/Blood Red Shoes/Razorlight). 'History of Modern' is a powerful, pulsating, vibrant and contemporary album with a strong pop sensibility. Tracks such as 'Pulse', 'Save Me', 'Sister Marie Says' and 'The Future' are huge future dancefloor fillers while others like the downtempo 'Bondage Of Fate', 'If You Want It' and 'Sometimes' are quite simply beautiful, classic OMD songs. The music sees a return to the band's early pioneering electronic roots, a sound that is now recognised as being a major influence on many of today's electro artists. The likes of LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy, The XX and The Killers have all cited OMD as a massive inspiration. $23.00

CD:
George Michael, Faith (Deluxe Edition)(2 CDs/DVD): Deluxe three disc (2 CDs/DVD) edition of the former Wham leader's 1987 debut solo album featuring a bonus CD that includes b-sides and remixes plus a bonus DVD. The exclusive DVD contains George Michael and Jonathan Ross Have Words (1987 Channel 4 Faith Special), Music, Money, Love, Faith (EPK, February 1988) and promo videos for the singles 'I Want Your Sex' (censored and uncensored videos), 'Faith', 'Father Figure', 'One More Try', 'Monkey' and 'Kissing A Fool'. Faith was the Pop singer/songwriter's multi-million selling attempt to break away from the Teen Pop chains that held Wham down. This album proved such a success that George has never been able to come close to topping it, both commercially or musically. $41.00
